City of Monterey welcomes a new city council member

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION)- During a special Monterey City Council meeting on Monday night, Gene Garcia was picked to take the vacant City Council seat out of eleven candidates.

Garcia is known by most as an Assistant Planner with a local non-profit organization who helps to implement safe routes to schools programs. The overall decision to appoint Garcia was unanimous.

He will hold this council seat until its up for election in December 2024.
