Attempted murder charge added to man caught in Salinas biker gang sting: deputies

SALINAS, Calif. (KION-TV) UPDATE Sept. 30, 2022, at 12:21 p.m.- New charges have been added to an alleged biker gang member that was arrested along with five other of his fellow members in early Sept.

Oswaldo Fernandez, 24 years old of Salinas, has been charged with a felony count of attempted murder, participating in a criminal street gang, and promoting a criminal street crime, according to the Monterey County Jail.

Jamie Garcia was also arrested during the biker sting and faces a felony charge for assault with a deadly weapon, not a firearm. According to the Monterey County Jail, her bail is set at $40,000.

Fernandez's bail is set at $1,075,000, according to the Monterey County Jail.

The other four alleged bike gang members were no longer in the court portal system as of Sept. 30.

Six bikers arrested on weapons and drugs charges in Salinas

The Monterey County Sheriff's Office said they arrested six people, three being Vagos Motorcycle Club members, during a multi-agency raid called Operation "It's not easy being green."

Four total homes were searched in Salinas, 13 guns were seized, as well as cash and a large amount of narcotics, said deputies. All the suspects are male.

Investigators said that there were numerous other unreported incidents where civilians were threatened and had weapons brandished at them by Vagos gang members.

The suspects were all from Salinas with ages ranging from 24 to 39 years old:

  • Oswaldo Fernandez, 24 years old, Salinas
  • Emigdio Ramos, 34 years old, Salinas
  • Hugo Ramos, 29 years old, Salinas
  • Luis Vasquez, 39 years old, Salinas
  • Jamie Garcia, 38 years old, Salinas
  • Alexandro Salinas, 24 years old, Salinas

Initially the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said one of the suspects was believed to be involved in an attempted homicide back in July on Highway 183 outside of Salinas.

It was then the Monterey County Sheriff's Office said a motorcyclist was shot at, which led deputies to believe the members of the biker gang was responsible.

Search warrants were conducted by the Sheriff's Office SWAT, Salinas Police SWAT, Peninsula SUR Team and CRCR'S SWAT.
