Greenfield gang member faces 50 years to life for murder of King City man in 2016

KING CITY, Calif. (KION) UPDATE 2/3/2023 4:05 p.m. - Monterey County District Attorney says a man involved in the 2016 murder of a King City man outside his home was convicted Friday.

John Samuel Thomas Trivino, 27 of Greenfield, was found guilty of murder and conspiracy to commit murder, in the killing of Martin Heredia a 20-year-old from King City, said Pacioni.

Pacioni said, on June 7, 2016, Martin Heredia had three friends over at his family's home and had just come back from purchasing food. That's when a black pickup truck with Trivino and other fellow gang members saw Heredia and his friends as they returned home.

The gang members parked the car around the corner from the home, said Pacioni. Trivino exited the truck and headed towards the home. At the same time, Heredia went back outside to retrieve a bag of chips he left in his friend's vehicle.

Trivino fired at Heredia as he was walking back into the home, striking him and the home, said Pacioni. Heredia later died from his gunshot wounds.

Tarvino was later arrested five years later in 2021 for his part in the murder.

Trivino faces 50 years to life at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation at his sentencing hearing which will be set at a later date, said Pacioni.

Another defendant in this case, Kendrix Perez, faces trial later in 2023.
