Officer involved shooting in Hollister

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION) An officer-involved shooting in Hollister ends with one suspect shot and taken to the hospital. The man is reported to be in stable condition.

Hollister police say they responded to a domestic situation at a home on Kimberly Court at about 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday. The suspect had allegedly threatened family members with a kitchen knife.

When two officers arrived to the 1100 block of Kimberly Court the man would not cooperate, according to police. He pulled out a large knife and began trying to set items on fire and began throwing them at the officers.

After attempts to deescalate the situation officers used forced and they opened gunfire, striking the suspect once in the abdomen. Officers immediately secured the suspect and rendered first aid until medics arrived on scene.

In a press release Hollister Police say:

"In the effort for full transparency, the Hollister Police Department has requested the assistance of the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office, the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office and the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office. The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has agreed to assist and is conducting the investigation of the shooting. The San Benito County Sheriff’s Office and the San Benito County District Attorney’s Office are supporting in any way necessary the complete investigation."
