Santa Cruz Warriors to host season of giving events

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) – The Santa Cruz Warriors will be hosting events to help out the community as part of the NBA Cares Season of Giving league-wide campaign.

Members of the Santa Cruz Warriors organization will help out disadvantaged families, youth with life-threatening medical conditions and local community groups to spread holiday cheer.

“This year, more than ever, we are so happy to be here to support our community,” said Santa Cruz Warriors President Chris Murphy. “It has been a hard year for all of Santa Cruz County between COVID-19 and the CZU Lightning Complex Fires. We are happy to bring some holiday cheer to these organizations and are so proud of the generosity from our staff and fans.”

Below is the schedule for the Santa Cruz Warriors’ Season of Giving events. The events are being completed while practicing social distancing and following safety guidelines.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 1:

·     Christmas Tree Donation – Mav’Riks will surprise a family in need with a fully decorated Christmas Tree in partnership with David Lyng Real Estate.

TUESDAY, DECEMBER 8:

·     Jacob’s Heart Gift Wrapping - Jacob’s Heart Children’s Cancer Support Services provides donated holiday gifts to patients in their network. Santa Cruz front office staff will assist in wrapping the gifts for the children to open on Christmas.

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 16:

·     Adopt-a-Family – In partnership with the Volunteer Center of Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Warriors front office and coaching staff adopted a family to provide gifts for the holidays. This year’s family was heavily impacted by COVID-19. Mav’Riks will deliver the gifts to the family.
