MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Meals on Wheels of the Monterey Peninsula announced that is expanding its delivery service to Cachagua and the surrounding communities in Carmel Valley, but it also plans to offer delivered meals in Big Sur in the future.

“Uncertain and difficult times call for action and big picture ideas,” says MOWMP’s Executive Director, Christine Winge. “Seniors in these rural areas are exponentially affected by the pandemic and are facing very real challenges around food insecurity.”

The agency's Home Delivered Meals program helps homebound seniors and disabled adults by bringing them prepared meals, providing socialization and conducting welfare checks.

It also partnered with the Community Foundation for Monterey County and the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula to get its first refrigerated truck, which will allow volunteers to take meals to remote locations.
