Two wolf hybrids captured, one still loose in San Benancio area
MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)
UPDATE 11/2/2020 12:30 p.m. The Monterey County Health Department said two of the three wolf hybrids that escaped their enclosure in the Lucie Lane area of San Benancio have been captured, but one is still loose.
Animal services is still looking for one female black wolf-dog hybrid that escaped Friday.
Officials said they are working with the owner to make sure the dogs are secure and find the one that is still loose.
Animal services said that anyone who sees the wolf hybrid should not approach her or scare her unless she is posing an immediate threat. They report that she is timid and nervous around people. Area residents are asked to keep animals and trash cans secured so they do not attract her.
Anyone who sees the dog between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday is asked to call 831-769-8856. At other times, they are asked to call 911.
PREVIOUS STORY: The Monterey County Health Department has issued a warning after three wolf hybrids were seen running loose in the Lucie Lane area of San Benancio.
Animal services first responded to the area at around 9:30 a.m. after a report of three dogs running loose in the area. After speaking to the person who reported them and the owner, they found that the dogs were actually wolf hybrids that had recently been brought to the area.
Animal services was not able to catch the animals and they got away.
The animals are a cross of domestic dog and a wolf, so they look wolf-like. Two are darker in color and one is white. All of them are about 8 months old.
The health department is warning that the animals are not familiar with the area and not socialized, so they may be aggressive and pose a threat to the community. Officials recommend confining small animals, birds and livestock until they are caught.
Anyone who sees one of the dogs is asked to not approach or try to catch them. If you see them, call Animal Control at 831-769-8856. After hours, call 911 if you see them.
