Hollister man arrested for allegedly swinging metal pipe at officer

HOLLISTER, Calif. (KION) A Hollister man has been arrested for assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly charging a woman with a metal pipe and later swinging it toward an officer.

Police said they were called to the 900 block of Monterey Street for a report of a man trespassing with a long metal pipe.

They spoke to a witness who said the suspect, identified as 61-year-old Kurt Stahl, was asked to leave the property and retaliated by charging at her and attempting to hit her with a pipe.

The officer found Stahl in the 900 block of San Benito Street holding the pipe. Police said he refused orders to drop it and moved to a more populated part of the downtown area. The officer chased Stahl, who allegedly swung the pipe at him. The officer used his taser and arrested Stahl.

After being treated for minor injuries at the hospital and was later booked into the San Benito County Jail for assault with a deadly weapon, brandishing a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and trespassing.
