Salinas school district announces passing of middle school principal

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Santa Rita School District announced that one of its principals died over the weekend.

According to Superintendent Timothy Ryan, Bolsa Knolls Middle School Principal John Gutierrez died Sunday morning.

Ryan said teachers will be reaching out to students to offer support, and the district will be offering additional counseling services.

Gutierrez has been the principal at Bolsa Knolls since it opened in August 2010, according to the school's website. District officials said he began working with them in 1991 and has made an impact on thousands of students as a teacher and administrator.

The district will be hosting a memorial service and will release details in the coming days.
