SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION)

Santa Cruz Police Chief Andrew Mills says the department will be stepping up their resources on election day as a public safety precaution.

Mills says he has seen and heard many people raising concerns of potential violence and protests this upcoming election day.

In response, the Santa Cruz Police Department released a video, encouraging people to stay safe and protest peacefully.

Some locals say they are not too worried about violence and protests in their area on election day, but they add it could also depend on the outcome.
