Salinas police begin foot patrols in Old Town, SUBA district

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) The Salinas Police Department is now assigning officers to foot patrols in Old Town ant the Salinas United Business Association district in east Salinas.

The department said the officers are assigned to walk the areas during the day to improve communication with business owners and community members, but it also allows them to find out what issues need to be addressed in the areas.

So far, the department said officers have addressed traffic concerns, garbage collection issues and general quality of life concerns. They have reportedly also helped homeless people in the area find shelter.

"That's why it's really nice that they are intervening because they know of these public resources and they can help connect the right people to the right places," said Adrian Jimenez with Blue Aces Bake Shop.

Foot patrols in are expected to continue in those areas.
