Park closures leave teens bored

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

Two cities are cracking down on enforcing COVID-19 health regulations with park closures.

Cutino and Monte Bella Parks are also located in zip codes with the highest number of Coronavirus cases in Monterey County.

Still people who frequent the park and like to stay active say people are playing sports while maintaining a distance.

"I don't think it's really going to...a lot of the sports that are being played right now...are spaced out. so i think it would be a good idea to open it back up to let people continue on with their lives. safely of course," said one visitor on Monday night.

Seaside Recreation Services said there have been several large gatherings and unauthorized organized events at the park.

The park closure is also affecting business for El Peregrino Taco Truck, that parks at Noche Buena and San Pablo and depends on the park's traffic.

The Monterey County Health Department reports that the zip code 93955, which includes Seaside and Sand City, has the highest number of cases in the Monterey Peninsula/Big Sur area at 463. About 77% of them have recovered.

At Monte Bella Park the hoops are gone from the basketball court.
