People evacuate in Monterey Co. as flames approach homes

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

People in the most impacted areas heed the warnings and evacuated in both the Carmel and River Fire.

On Wednesday night, the gas stations in Carmel Valley Village were busy as evacuees stopped by to gas up. Evacuation orders grew in the area as the fire grew to over 2,000 acres.

In the Las Palmas neighborhood in Salinas off River Road crews managed to save homes as they carried out a containment fires yards away from people's property.

Along San Benancio Road people were seen packing their things in the afternoon and heading out.

The River Fire growing to 15,000 acres by Wednesday evening.
