Power restored to more than 4,000 PG&E customers in Capitola, Soquel area

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 8/14/2020 6:30 p.m. Pacific Gas and Electric reports that power has been restored to more than 4,000 customers in the Capitola and Soquel areas following an outage.

There is still an outage affecting 96 customers east of Highway 17. The utility said it was caused by an equipment issue, and power is expected to be restored at 8:30 p.m.

PG&E said the cause of the outage is still unknown, but one area is estimated to have power back by 5:45 p.m. and the other area is expected to have it back by 6 p.m.

Another outage off Highway 17 is affecting more than 300 people, and PG&E said that outage was caused by an equipment issue. Power is expected to be restored there by 8:30 p.m.

A Flex Alert was issued statewide as a result of heat advisories and excessive heat warnings in the Central Coast and beyond. Californians are asked to reduce power usage between 3 and 10 p.m. to prevent outages due to increased demand.
