Crews Fire near Gilroy 100% contained

GILROY, Calif. (KION) 7/14/2020 7:30 a.m. The Crews Fire off Crews Road and Sunlit Oaks Court in Gilroy is now fully contained.

In total, it burned 5,513 acres and destroyed one structure.

The cause is still under investigation.

UPDATE 7/13/2020 7 a.m. The Crews Fire burning north of Gilroy is at 5,513 acres and is 97% contained.

One structure has been destroyed, but none are currently threatened and no injuries have been reported, according to Cal Fire.

Firefighters will continue to mop up and patrol the perimeter.

UPDATE 7/8/2020 7 a.m. Cal Fire says the Crews Fire north of Gilroy is still 5,400 acres, but it is now 80% contained.

All evacuation orders have been lifted, and no structures are currently threatened.

UPDATE 7/8/2020 1 p.m. According to Cal Fire, the Crews Fire burning near Gilroy was 5,400 acres and 60% contained as of 7 a.m.

Cal Fire said the fire is threatening 30 structures, has destroyed one and has damaged another, but no injuries have been reported. It is expected to be fully contained by Sunday.

Evacuations are in place from Highway 152 north to Gilroy Hot Springs and southeast to Prunedale Avenue. Canada Road is closed from Highway 152 to Gilroy Hot Springs.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The fire started Sunday and has burned through 1500 acres so far.

Fire crews on site said they are covering a very large area and have been battling the fire overnight and into the morning.

Parts of the area are closed off, including Canada Road.

Some surrounding neighborhoods are still under evacuation orders.
