SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) An education fund has been created for the children of Sgt. Damon Gutzwiller, who was killed on duty during an ambush in Ben Lomond.

The fund was set up by the Friends of San Lorenzo Valley with help from Santa Cruz County Sheriff Jim Hart, retired Sheriff Steve Robbins, retired Sheriff Phil Wowak and retired Deputy Mike Pruger.

Liberty Bank of San Lorenzo Valley is partnering with them, and community members can make donations to the fund at the bank's locations in Felton and Boulder Creek. Donations can also be made by sending checks made out to "Gutz's Kids."

The addresses for the bank are:

  • 6230 Highway 9, Felton, CA 95018
  • 13233 Highway 9, Boulder Creek, CA 95006

At the bank locations, the Sheriff's Office said there are also memorial books to sign that will be given to Gutzwiller's wife, Favi, and their children.
