Seaside considers ordinance to crack down on illegal fireworks

Fireworks

SEASIDE, Calif. (KION)

The city of Seaside is considering an urgency ordinance prohibiting the use of all fireworks at a meeting, tonight.

This means no fireworks will be allowed after 10 p.m. if it is approved.

In a statement, the city cited an uptick in illegal fireworks incidents.

Last year, police and fire departments received over 100 calls regarding illegal fireworks incidents, leading to the need for the ordinance.

The proposal for the ordinance this year includes starting an online complaint/declaration form for residents to help enforce the new regulations.

Residents could get a $50 incentive upon conclusion of the citations.
