Southbound Highway 17 closed as crews fight fires

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Southbound lines of Highway 17 are closed Tuesday as crews fight fires near the roadway.

Northbound lanes are still open. Southbound lanes are expected to be closed for the next hour.

The California Highway Patrol said there are a series of fires in the area around Redwood Estates.

Santa Clara County Fire is at the scene. The agency responded to reports of a roadside vegetation fire in the area around Idylwild Road along with Cal Fire.

By about 5 p.m., the fire was controlled at about a quarter acre.

Santa Clara County Fire said the fire is under investigation, but possibly suspicious.
