Mola mola fish spotted at Monterey harbor

MONTEREY, Calif. (KION) Hopkins Marine Station shared a video of molas, also called ocean sunfish, swimming in the Monterey harbor over the weekend.

According to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, the fish can be up to 10 feet and nearly 5,000 pounds, but the ones in the Monterey Bay get up to 1,000 pounds or more.

The fish are flat and silver/gray with small mouths and big eyes. The aquarium said they mainly eat jellies and other gelatinous zooplankton and live in open waters.
