SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION)

In response to the national and community held protests for the Black Lives Matter movement, Santa Cruz city officials are coming together with the community to form a plan of action.

People at demonstrations across the Central Coast said they want to see more diversity in law enforcement and additional training of officers to prevent another incident like Floyd's from happening.

Today, Chief Andy Mills and Mayor Justin Cummings are hosting a community forum to discuss reducing bias, having more diversity in the department and planning de-escalation tactics.

This event will happen from 6-8 p.m..

People can take part by calling in or logging in via zoom.

Protesters are kicking off another demonstration today at Westcliff Dr. in Santa Cruz at 5:30 p.m.
