Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter helps to rescue 80 hens from farm

SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 6/5/2020 12:30 p.m. After just six days, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter said all 80 hens rescued from an Iowa farm have been adopted.

PREVIOUS STORY: The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter said it worked with Animal Place out of Grass Valley to rescue 80 hens.

The shelter said the hens were rescued from an egg farm in Iowa that went out of business due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Without going to rescue them, the shelter said the hens would not have anyone to care for them.

Anyone interesting in adopting one of the hens is asked to call 831-454-7200 to be placed on the adoption waitlist.
