deadly crash

GILROY, Calif. (KION) The California Highway Patrol said a man died as a result of a fiery crash on Highway 101 Monday.

The CHP said the man was driving a 90's model Lexus north on the highway south of Buena Vista when the vehicle swerved right and off the road for unknown reasons.

The vehicle drove up the embankment and hit the overcrossing. The car then caught fire with the driver inside.

Multiple people passing by tried to help him, according to the CHP, but he was unconscious and trapped. Fire crews were eventually able to put out the fire, but the driver had died.

The CHP said officers did not find evidence of alcohol or drugs in the vehicle.
