Non-essential businesses close after Shelter in Place enforcement begins in San Benito County

SAN BENITO COUNTY, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 4/10/2020 4 p.m. San Benito County has released which non-essential businesses closed after Shelter in Place enforcement began.

San Benito County, the City of Hollister and the City of San Juan Bautista have been investigating complaints about non-essential businesses remaining open, and they have contacted several businesses.

  • Ridgemark Golf Course complied when contacted
  • Sun City Tanning complied with closure
  • Smokey Pete's Smoke Shop did not initially comply, so the City of Hollister suspended its business license
  • Oasis Fitness/California Kurobuta Meat Club complied when contacted
  • One Pass Squeegee complied when contacted
  • Select Learning Techniques complied when contacted
  • Construction at Ashford Highlands complied when contacted
  • A roadside vendor at 3rd and San Benito complied when contacted
  • A roadside vendor at Union and SR 156 complied when contacted
  • Miller Pacific construction complied when contacted
  • Wayne Holman Construction complied when contacted
  • Alcoholic Anonymous Hollister Memorial Fellowship complied when contacted
  • Jagdish Construction complied when contacted
  • Construction at Martini Run complied when contacted
  • Construction at Kane Drive complied when contacted
  • K. Hovnanian Homes complied when contacted

PREVIOUS STORY: San Benito County, the City of Hollister and the City of San Juan Bautista are investigating complaints about non-essential businesses staying open while the Shelter in Place order is in effect, and they have already contacted several businesses.

San Benito County officials said nine non-essential businesses have closed since enforcement began.

One business in Hollister did not comply initially, according to county officials, so the city revoked its business license. It has since closed.

There are pending investigations for nine more businesses.
