MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Montage Health has opened two new urgent care clinics, one in Monterey and one in Marina.

The clinics are intended for those experiencing mild illnesses and injuries. Some examples of what can be handled at the urgent care clinics includes allergies, colds, sports physicals, poison oak, scrapes and sprains.

A Montage spokesperson said the facilities were initially part of an effort to solve the shortage of primary care physicians in the area. But, in the opening days, turnout has not been as high as expected.

“We’re seeing less than we’ve truly expected, but we think that’s part of people paying attention to the information of staying home," MoGo Urgent Care Chief Operating Officer Chris Stegge said. "So those numbers are down.“

The clinics do not perform testing for COVID-19. Patients experiencing respiratory symptoms should not go to these facilities. If they are unsure about their symptoms, they can schedule a virtual visit with Montage health providers here.

They will be open to walk-ins, but patients can also schedule an appointment online here.

Both locations will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day. The Monterey clinic is now open at 2020 Del Monte Avenue, and the Marina location is open at 2930 2nd Avenue, Suite 120.

Montage Health said another clinic is scheduled to open in Carmel later this year.
