MONTEREY, Calif. (KION Staff)

Four people were arrested for violating the Monterey County shelter in place health order, according to the Monterey Police Department.

Monterey police officers were alerted to the group while responding to noise complaints at an apartment complex on Helvic Avenue on Friday, April 3 at around 8:12pm.

When officers arrived at the apartment they discovered that three of the four people did not live there. Police say the woman who lived in the apartment, 29-year old Ashley Deorona of Monterey was arrested for resisting or obstructing an officer and violating a county health officer's order.

Three of the others at the apartment were also cited for violating the county health order. All were eventually released.

The Monterey Police Department says they are also beefing up patrols in marked and unmarked vehicles in all locations of the city while "nonessential" businesses are closed to thwart criminal activity.

The MPD says they will use the same tactics to enforce the Shelter in Place Order to "ensure the imminent threat and menace to the public health is minimized by those who chose to ignore the SIP, thereby endangering the community."
