MARINA, Calif. (KION) Two people were arrested on suspicion of trying to steal a vehicle after a community member reported it and gave information leading to the arrest.

Officers responded to a report of a suspicious man and woman near Healy Drive and Marina Greens Drive Wednesday just before 2 p.m. The person who reported them said they saw the man get into a parked vehicle while the woman appeared to be keeping a lookout. The witness said the man had been under the steering column before he and the woman walked away.

The witness was able to give police a description that led to them contacting a man and woman on the 3300 block of Del Monte Boulevard.

During the investigation, police said they found that the suspects, Martin Ramon Sanchez and Bianca Perez Torres of Watsonville, had tried to steal the vehicle the man got into. Police also found shaved keys, which they consider burglary tools.

Sanchez was booked into the Monterey County Jail and charged with attempted vehicle theft, possession of burglary tools, conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of a controlled substance. Police said he was also in violation of his "Own Recognizance" terms for a prior arrest, so he was charged with violation of a court order. Sanchez had an arrest warrant for possession of drug paraphernalia and destroying or concealing evidence.

Police said Torres was in violation of her California State Parole terms and local probation terms. She was booked into the Monterey County Jail and charged with conspiracy to commit a crime, possession of burglary tools, probation violation and possession of a controlled substance.
