Confinement After UK: Nearly There

NOTE: KION's Josh Kristianto currently shows no symptoms of COVID-19 (coronavirus). He is self-isolating by his own choice for the benefit of his family and the public after returning from the United Kingdom in a recent trip. News-Press & Gazette Company, who owns KION, has also mandated he stay and work from home to safeguard those working in the newsroom.

SALINAS, Calif. (KION) I landed in San Jose on Saturday, March 14, 2020, after spending a week in London on holiday.

Now, 11 days since then, the friends I went with and I are happy to say we're showing no symptoms of COVID-19. 11 days is a big benchmark because experts say 97% of coronavirus cases usually show up by then; we're taking this day as a day to celebrate.

The average time it takes for symptoms to show up is usually 5-6 days, and we are well clear of that timeframe by now.

That doesn't mean we're going to let our guard down, however. 14 days is the recommended CDC self-quarantine period after traveling to an area impacted by the pandemic. I won't be able to get back to working in the field for KION until after that.

But these days have been quite the learning experience, not just for me and my friends, but for us all. I was nervous going into these 14 days at the start, but as time passes, the less concerned I become, the more routine it all is. Let's make the best of it.
