Stormy Weekend & Beyond

A strong storm system packed with cold air will make its way down the West Coast this weekend, then stall just off the Central Coast into early next week. Breezy southwesterly winds will continue ahead of the cold front into Saturday. Those winds will continue to push moisture into the area in the form of clouds and occasional drizzle. The cold front will begin to move into the area around mid-day on Saturday, stalling a bit in the north, then slowly moving across the rest of the area into Saturday evening. Light to moderate rain is expected with occasional wind gusts. Rain will continue into early Sunday, then scatter out a bit late. With the system stalled offshore early next week, several more rounds of rain showers are likely. Snow levels will drop into our mountains and there is also some potential for thunderstorms early next week. We’ll likely see a brief break mid-week, but another system will take aim on the California Coast by the end of the week.

Saturday: Mostly cloudy with rain spreading from north to south across the region during the day. Periods of light to moderate rain expected. Gusty southwest winds will shift to the west later in the day. Highs in the 50s with a few inland valleys in the low 60s. Some locations in the Santa Cruz Mountains won’t make it out of the 40s.

Sunday: Periods of rain early, then becoming partly cloudy with isolated showers. Cool and breezy with highs in the 50s.

Extended:  Shower chances continue Monday/Tuesday with highs mainly in the 50s. Dryer, warmer weather expected Wednesday/Thursday, but more rain is possible late in the week.
