Family of a Salinas boy struck and killed by car decide to donate his organs

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

It's been a little over a week since the life of Alex Martinez, 14, tragically ended.

The Salinas High School Freshman stepped out of his mom's car and ran across San Juan Grade Road. The accident ended his life. However, his family hopes his death will give someone the gift of life.

"They decided to donate his organs. There's another kid sick. And it seems like the right thing to do. Maybe you live on in someone else," said the teen's aunt Raquel Martinez.

Sadly, the Martinez family is still mourning the death of Raquel's son, who died in a car accident less than two years ago.

"My son just wanted to go camping with his friends on the weekend and on his way home, he just got into a car accident," said Martinez.

Alex hasn't been laid to rest yet. His family says they hope to have a nice funeral service for him. Already, $4,500 has been raised on a gofundme account, where the goal is to raise $10,000.
