Soledad police officer killed in weekend crash

SOLEDAD, Calif. (KION) The Soledad Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.

Officer Kevin McArthur, who worked for the department, was killed in a motorcycle accident over the weekend, according to a statement from the city.

The Interim Chief of the Soledad Police Department, Damon Wasson, said the crash happened in Santa Clara County. It happened off Highway 85 in San Jose.

Wasson described McArthur as a two-time Officer of the Year for the department who was close with his fellow officers. He was also a sergeant with the Army Reserves.

In the statement, City Manager Michael McHatten said, "I want to take this opportunity to extend my deepest condolences and prayers to his family and friends during this painful and difficult time. Soledad is a small, tight-knit community where we truly care about each other. In these moments, it is so important that we came together to show one another support.:

The Soledad Police Department is collecting letters expressing comfort to give to Officer McArthur's family. Letters can be sent to the department at 236 Main Street, Soledad, CA 93960.
