MARINA, Calif. (KION) California State University-Monterey Bay is welcoming a new electric scooter company to campus, this week.

This comes just months after the scooter company, "Lime," pulled all its electric scooters from the campus and suspended contract negations.

The new company, set to launch at CSUMB on Tuesday, is called "Spin."

Spin scooters will allow anyone to get around campus for just 15 cents a minute. Riders unlock the scooters through an application on their phone.

"I think they're pretty cool. I definitely want to use them to get to class faster because I hate speed walking," said freshman student, Chrystal Merino.

"It'll be really useful. I know a lot of people have classes far away that they have to get to fast. It'll be nice to use," said freshman student, Jayda Ablola.

CSUMB officials say Spin scooters can only be used on campus. Outside of the school's perimeter the scooters will turn off.

Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., Spin representatives will offer safety trainings and hand out helmets on campus.
