Man arrested in connection to Stone Street hit and run

SALINAS, Calif. (KION)

UPDATE 1/20/2020 11:15 a.m. A man has been arrested in connection to a hit and run on Stone Street last week.

On Saturday, police arrested 63-year-old Jose Garcia. He was charged with hit and run resulting in injury, driving without a license and probation violation. He was booked into the Monterey County Jail.

The vehicle that police believe was the one that hit the women was found a few days before the arrest.

The hit and run happened on Jan. 13 near Sacred Heart Church. Two women, a 90-year-old and a 68-year-old, were hit by a vehicle that did not stop.

Both were taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The 68-year-old woman was later released, but the 90-year-old woman is in serious but stable condition.

The hit-and-run happened at around 9:30 a.m. Monday near Sacred Heart Church on Stone Street. The two women, who are 90 and 68 years old, were hit by a silver Suburban heading north. Police said the vehicle did not stop, and it was last seen turning onto W. Market Street.

The women were taken to Natividad with serious injuries. The 68-year-old woman was released, but the 90-year-old woman is still in serious but stable condition.

Police believe the driver of the Suburban was 58-year-old Luis Enrique Gomez. He is wanted on hit-and-run with serious injury and driving on a suspended licence charges. Police said the Suburban he drove has a partial CA license plate of 7GAL.
