WASHINGTON, D.C. (KION) Reps. Jimmy Panetta and Anna Eshoo announced that they got an extension for emergency repair funding from the Department of Transportation's Federal Highway Administration.

Santa Cruz County was granted emergency relief funds for road damages after storms in 2016 and 2017. They allowed local and state governments to rebuild critical transportation infrastructure.

The funds need to be spent within a two-year window, but similar projects often get multiple one-year extensions because of how complex reconstruction projects can be.

“I am proud that Congresswoman Eshoo and I were successful in our advocacy to ensure that our local repair projects can be properly funded and completed,” said Congressman Panetta. “These funds provide local and state governments the ability to rebuild critical transportation infrastructure and ensure the safety of our residents.”

Congresswoman Eshoo said storms in 2016 caused more than $120 million in damage at more than 200 sites, more than any county in the state.
