PASADENA, Calif. (KION) The city of Monterey is taking part in New Year's Day's Rose Bowl Parade in Southern California.

The city was invited to take part, so the first mechanized fire engine, the 106-year-old Old Gray Mare, was dressed up and sent down.

This is in part to help Monterey kick off its 250th birthday this year.

The Rose Bowl Parade has taken place in Pasadena every New Year's Day since 1890, and the theme this year is "The Power of Hope."

It is held ahead of the Rose Bowl football game. This year, the Wisconsin Badgers are up against the Oregon Ducks.
