Santa Cruz plans to protect students walking and biking to school

Starting in January 2020, the Safe Routes to School Crossing Improvements Project will kick off near campuses in Santa Cruz. 

The project includes 21 different locations around Santa Cruz. Those are next to 8 different schools. The city expects this undertaking to cost about a million dollars. That’s funded through the state-issued Active Transportation Program Cycle 2 grant.

The Santa Cruz public works department says that the improvements will include curb ramps, streetlights, speed radar signs, and more. 

Work will begin on January 6th. It continue until May 2020 on weekdays between 8:00am and 3:30pm.

Two-way traffic will continue, but drivers can expect delays over the next few months.
