Hundreds of Santa Cruz residents raised their voices in front of the Clock Tower in downtown Tuesday, calling for the impeachment of President Donald Trump on the eve of the House vote.

“I’m for impeachment and conviction,” said local Mary Pat.

The local rally, organized by Santa Cruz Indivisible, is one of over 500 rallies held nationwide calling on Congress to impeach and remove Trump from office.

The articles of impeachment against the president are limited to the Ukraine controversy, including accusations of trying to investigate political opponents and obstruct congress' inquiry.

At the rally, Santa Cruz demonstrators held up signs reading, "Trump is not above the law." But most focused their opposition to President Trump's agenda on issues from gun control to health care, immigration and climate change.

“Ignoring climate change and what the old industry has done to the united states is horrible so I want him impeached,” said Santa Cruz resident Cathy.

Ralliers say it’s time for a change and they want someone else in power.

But some drivers passing by, expressed support for another term of President Trump, one shouting, "Trump 2020."

Republican Jeff Gorman is challenging sitting congressman Jimmy Panetta. He is defending the President, saying there's not enough evidence to go along with Democrats' accusations.

“In terms of abuse of power, the President of the United States is the commander in chief. Everyone in the Executive Branch works for him. That’s the way the Constitution is set up," Gorman said.

The vote will likely pass in the House, but Gorman doesn’t expect Trump to be removed from office.

“I don’t see a reason to remove Mr. Trump and I think 11 months from now, the American people will have the opportunity to choose the president for the next 4 years,” Gorman said.

If the House approves articles of impeachment, the resolution then moves onto the Senate, where a trial is expected.
