MARINA, Calif. (KION) Marina police are warning residents that if they want to report a crime or suspicious activity, do not use social media.

Police said in the past few months, they have seen more people reporting crimes in progress or suspicious activity in progress via Facebook Messenger, but they do not monitor social media 24 hours a day.

If you need to report a crime in progress or suspicious activity in progress, police ask you call the non-emergency number at 831-384-7575 or 911 if it is an emergency. Both numbers will allow callers to talk to a dispatcher who will gather the information and dispatch officers on duty.
