SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) At least three contraband items have been found using the new body scanner at the Santa Cruz County Jail since it was installed last week, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Most recently, the Sheriff's Office said the scanner picked up an abnormality while scanning an arrested woman.

The Sheriff's Office said she admitted to hiding drugs inside her after questioning and gave staff a metal container. The arresting agency identified the contents as meth.

The woman will now also be charged with possessing a controlled substance in jail.

The Sheriff's Office said the scanner has also helped staff find a lighter and inmate communications.
