MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. (KION) Part of Monterey Dunes Way is closed because of a large sinkhole under the road.

It is closed about 800 feet west of Molera Drive. County officials said a failed drainage culvert caused part of the road to collapse.

The county said the road is too dangerous for vehicles, but pedestrians are allowed.

Crews are at the scene and hope to have a temporary repair finished by the end of the day.
