SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) A new body scanner has been installed at the Santa Cruz County Jail to find contraband before it gets into the jail.

The Sheriff's Office said the scanner will give a high-resolution scan of the full body, which will help them find weapons or drugs hidden in body cavities or other areas.

The body scanner was first used on Tuesday, and since then, the Sheriff's Office said two contraband items have been found.

The scanner is similar to the ones used at airports when travelers pass through security. The Sheriff's Office hopes that the new technology will save lives.
