Watsonville police looking for couple claiming to have winning lottery ticket, asking for money

Watsonville police are looking for a couple who they say swindled a woman out of thousands of dollars.

Police said the couple told the woman they had a winning lottery ticket worth thousands of dollars in a shopping center parking lot on the 1400 block of Freedom Boulevard last Friday.

The couple allegedly convinced the woman to give them $6,000 for the ticket after they said they were not able to cash it because of their legal status.

The couple was seen on surveillance footage in the parking lot. In the video, the male suspect was wearing a gray hat and shirt, and the female suspect was wearing a white hat. Police said they both left in what appeared to be a silver Chrysler Pacifica.

“If it seems too easy and you’re going to get-rich-quick, don’t do it because it’s a scam,” said Sergeant Mish Radich.

Anyone with information is asked to call Det. Nelson Hernandez at 831-768-3358.
