Santa Cruz business offering complimentary aesthetic services to breast cancer survivors

Mary Hayes has attended dozens of clinic visits since she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017, but Wednesday’s consultation was different. “For 47 years I was familiar with my body. It went through a lot of really dramatic changes,” said Hayes.

Hayes said she is one step closer to feeling like herself again. BodyLab MedSpa in Santa Cruz uses 3D tattoo technology to create realistic nipples. Hayes lost hers during a double mastectomy early in her diagnosis. “Without nipples, the focal point is the surgical scars. When I have that image of myself shirtless, it’s a reminder of all the pain and fear that I’ve been through in the past two years,” said Hayes.

Body art practitioner, Stacey Boscoe, is helping Hayes put that pain in the past. On top of that, the traditionally roughly $1,000 procedure is being offered at no cost. “I really wanted to help women in a way that I knew I could because I have the skills and the ability,” said Boscoe.

BodyLab MedSpa is offering free services to women fighting breast cancer during the month of October. Microblading and 3D tattooing will be done for free. Lymphatic drainage massage and facial consultations are also offered. “It’s a huge change emotionally. It gives them a sense of self again. It makes them feel whole again,” said Boscoe.

This month, Hayes said she is taking time to remember her late grandmother who died of breast cancer. She said she pushes on in honor of her. “I really wish she had all the resources that are available to me. To have this opportunity so soon is really a gift,” said Hayes.

BodyLab MedSpa is holding a free consultation event for all breast cancer survivors on October 24th from 3-6 p.m.
