Salinas firefighter helps injured hiker in Yosemite

A man has contacted the Salinas City Firefighters Association to thank a firefighter who helped his wife after she fell while off duty.

The association said the man, Michael Fang, contacted it to thank Capt. Fury for his quick actions after seeing someone fall and rendering aid in Yosemite.

Fang said he and his wife were hiking in Yosemite on Sept. 6 when his wife fell from a rock, broke her wrist and passed out. Furey and his daughter were also hiking in the area, and Fang said they saw the accident.

Fang said that, after Furey saw the fall, Furey helped the woman regain consciousness and provided first aid to keep her wrist stable. With Furey’s help, Fang said, he and his wife got to an emergency care center for treatment. Fang said the doctor told him the first aid treatment was good enough that tthere was no need for surgery.

“During our conversation, we knew he is a firefighter from Salinas. Here, we pay our respect and appreciation to him, a firefighter, a helper, and we want to say thank you again deep from our heart,” Fang said.

The association said it wants to acknowledge Furey’s dedication and quick actions.
