Hollister police arrest gang member in connection to drive-by shooting

Hollister police said a known gang member was arrested in connection to a drive-by shooting, but they continue to look for others involved.

Sunday evening at around 7 p.m., police responded to a report of a drive-by shooting in the 200 block of San Lorenzo Drive. Officers said they found that shots had been fired into the house and a parked car in the driveway of a home.

Police said a teenage boy was standing in front of the home during the shooting, but was not shot. Nobody inside the house was injured either. The shooting was recorded on security cameras on the outside of the home.

At around 8 p.m., a San Benito County Sheriff’s deputy saw a vehicle matching the description of the one involved in the shooting and followed it to a home in the 1500 block of Clearview Drive. The deputy said a male who matched the description of one of the shooters got out of the vehicle. The deputy recognized that person as 18-year-old Adrian Nieto, who police said is a known gang member on felony probation.

When the deputy tried to contact Nieto, he ran into the home and locked the door behind him. The suspect vehicle also left the area. The deputy called for more units, and they set up a perimeter around the home.

Police said two teen boys in the house refused to let officers and deputies in the home and Nieto refused to come out. When the homeowner arrived, police said they let law enforcement inside, where they found Nieto hiding. Officers said he was arrested without incident.

Police said they did not find a gun, but Nieto was identified by officers as one of the shooters in the video from the victim’s home.

Nieto was booked into the San Benito County Jail on suspicion of violation of shooting into an inhabited dwelling and probation violation. Officers are still trying to identify the second shooter and other occupants of the suspect vehicle.

Police said the investigation is ongoing and officers have several leads to follow-up on. If you have any information, you are asked to call Officer Pedro Torres at 831-636-4330.
