Over $6 million awarded for Central Coast Veterans Cemetery

The long-awaited updates to the Veterans Cemetery in Seaside may soon come to fruition.

Congressman Jimmy Panetta has announced the California Central Coast Veterans Cemetery was awarded a federal grant totaling 6,417,059.00 from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) National Cemetery Administration (NCA).

The grant will be used for the expansion of the cemetery, that many in Monterey County and beyond have been working hard to see done.

“Local leaders, community members, and veterans have worked long and hard for the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery. This federal investment adds to that ongoing effort by helping the cemetery meet the goals for its master plan. I thank Senator Bill Monning for his ongoing work and advocacy at the state level to help open the cemetery and now ensure that the cemetery evolves,” said Congressman Panetta. “Together, we will continue to work to ensure the advancement of the Central Coast Veterans Cemetery so that our community can continue to provide a lasting tribute to those who served our country.”

This grant will fund the construction of 1,912 pre-placed crypts, 1,079 in-ground cremains gravesites, 80 memorial wall plaques, roadway, landscaping, and supporting infrastructure. The project will develop 5.6 acres, enabling the cemetery to provide continued service for approximately 84,400 Veterans and their eligible family members.
