Explicit video reportedly shown in Salinas middle school

Parents are outraged after word got out that an inappropriate video was shown by a teacher in class at Harden Middle School.

“I have 7th and 8th graders that go to this school. I try to keep them as sheltered as possible, but when things like this come up it really hits me in the gut,” said parent, Christine Twist.

According to parents, the video showed characters from the popular ’90s TV show, Teletubbies, engaging in sexual activity. Although this may be laughable to some, parents of kids who go here are not taking it lightly.

“I believe sex ed starts about high school age, so this definitely isn’t appropriate for the age, or the class, at all,” said parent, Gustavo Lopez.

The school’s principal sent a message to parents, after it happened. It said that students in the classroom were actually the ones to tell administration about it. Parents said they still wonder why this was used in school, in the first place. “It’s probably not something that should’ve been seen in a math class. No matter what the content is. Why are you watching any videos that don’t pertain to learning?” said a parent who wished to remain anonymous.

Harden Middle School said they are investigating what really happened in class that day. It is unclear if the teacher allegedly involved has been placed on leave. The school has assured parents that situation like this are “addressed appropriately” by administration.

Parents said they want to see that a response is carried out. “Better training for the teachers. I know there’s sometimes limited resources on what they can use, but I think just better preparation and better material,” said Twist.
