New pedestrian bridge installed in Santa Cruz

In an effort to help increase walking, biking and safety in Santa Cruz, the city installed a prefabricated bridge for the Branciforte Creek Bike/Pedestrian Bridge and Multi-Use Trail Project.

The new bridge installed Thursday morning is 126-feet long and goes from the San Lorenzo Park over to Branciforte Creek. The bridge made of corten steel, arrived in two parts which have been bolted together for installation.

The bridge deck and concrete will be poured the week of July 3.

Crews still have to work on the path and bridge lighting, fencing, construction of new drainage systems, paving of the trail and parking lot, sidewalk repairs, striping and signage, and San Lorenzo Park and riverbank restoration.

The bridge project is expected to be complete by early fall.
