Man and his dog stop in Santa Cruz on cross-country bike tour

A man and his dog are biking across the country to raise awareness about animal shelters and they made a stop on the Central Coast.

Mike Minnick and his dog Bixby are also hoping to set a Guinness World Record for the cross-country ride.

The two have been inseparable since Minnick adopted Bixby from an animal shelter seven years ago.

They are now finishing up a yearlong biking tour and will claim the Guinness World Record for the greatest distance covered by an electric bicycle next month.

During their time on the road, Minnick and Bixby visited and raised awareness for more than 100 animal shelters and recently stopped in Santa Cruz.

“The biggest gift that Santa Cruz could give to Bixby while we’re in town is that people could come down to the SPCA and support the shelter and adopt a new best friend,” said Minnick.

Minnick and Bixby plan to visit Peace of Mind Dog Rescue during their time on the Central Coast and they’re also planning to start another tour not long after they finish this one.
