UPDATE: New Mexico man killed in Tuesday’s fatal accident near Gilroy

UPDATE: 11/30/16 2:42 PM:

The California Highway Patrol released more details today about Tuesday’s fatal one car collision on Highway 101 near Gilroy.

A 58-year-old male driver from Albuquerque, NM was killed in the crash. His name has not yet been released.

According to the CHP, the driver was traveling southbound on Highway 101 when his 2012 GMC left the roadway south of Old Monterey Road and crashed into a concrete culvert. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:29 a.m. Tuesday.

Investigators say drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision.

UPDATE: 11/29/16 5:23 AM

According to the CHP, a man drove off Highway 101, hit the guardrail, and ended up in a ditch. The vehicle landed in a culvert, making recovery much harder. The right lane of traffic South Bound has been closed, however CHP does not believe there will be delays to the morning commute.
