Jail escapee Laron Campbell captured

UPDATE 11/30/16 11:30 AM: The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office announced late Tuesday that Leron Campbell, one of two men who escaped from the county’s main jail last week, has been recaptured.

Campbell was taken into custody by U.S. Marshals and Antioch police officers around 10 p.m. Tuesday when he fell through the roof of his hiding place in the attic of his sister’s Antioch home.

Marshals had kept her home under surveillance since shortly after his escape from jail.

Campbell is pictured below with his sister, Marcaysha Alexander, 24, who was also taken into custody and faces charges of harboring a fugitive.

UPDATE 11/29/16 3:25 PM: Santa Clara County Sheriff’s deputies conducted a raid Tuesday in hopes of finding information about of Rogelio Chavez, one of two men who escaped last week from the county’s main jail.

The Sheriff’s Office said investigators are processing information and interviewing witnesses from a raid on Inman Way in San Jose.

In a previous operation on Nov. 27, deputies arrested a woman they say helped Chavez elude capture by driving him throughout Santa Clara County. Emily Vaca, 35, of San Jose was arrested as an accessory to a crime.

Sheriff Laurie Smith announced that anyone who harbors, aids or assists the escapees will be prosecuted.

There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to the capture of Rogelio Chavez and the second escapee, Laron Campbell.

UPDATE 11/28/16 12:10 PM: The search for two escaped inmates led authorities on Sunday to a Gilroy motel, where one of the fugitives, Rogelio Chavez, had reportedly been seen. Chavez wasn’t found, but several other people were taken into custody. It was not clear if they are linked to the case.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office received multiple tips that Chavez was at a Days Inn in Gilroy. Police say it’s likely Chavez was at the hotel as recently as Sunday night but may have left before police arrived.

Chavez and Laron Campbell escaped with two other prisoners Wednesday night from the county’s main jail by cutting through the bars covering a second-story window. They then rappelled to the ground on a bedsheet. The two others were apprehended.

ORIGINAL STORY: A major manhunt is underway in Santa Clara County after four inmates escaped from the Santa Clara Main Jail. Two inmates were caught right away, two more are still on the loose.

Authorities are looking for Rogelio Chavez, 33 of San Jose, and Laron Campbell, 26 of Palo Alto.

Around 11 pm Thursday, four inmates escaped from a second story window in the oldest section of the jail, somehow cutting through the window’s bars. Crime scene investigators have processed the cell where the inmates escaped and have not located any cutting instruments.

According to a news release from Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, Rogelio Chavez was booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on August 17, 2016, held on charges including burglary, false imprisonment and weapons violations. He’s a Hispanic male, 6’1″ weighting 190 lbs. Laron Campbell has been at the jail since February 12, 2015 on robbery, false imprisonment and weapons charges. He’s an African American man, standing 6’4″ weighting 220 lbs.
